DON’T ‘KILL’ YOURSELF, ANWAR – LET THE BEST MAN LEAD: EVEN AMBIGA SAYS IT – FOCUS ON ‘WINNING FORMULA’, NOT PUSHING ANWAR AS PM
The opposition is doing a disservice to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, by pushing the agenda of him, to be the next prime minister.
Human rights activist Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan said the opposition need to study the impact that this agenda will have, on them.
“I may lose friends for saying this but it is time for people to speak up here, I think they (opposition) are doing Anwar a terrible disservice because they are making it look like he’s only interested in becoming the next prime minister.
“I think the opposition need to take a step back and consider what they are doing and the effect of what they are doing,” Ambiga said during a social concerns forum entitled “Emerging Issues of The Coming Elections” held at the Wesley Methodist Church here.
“Please ensure us that you want to win this election and that you have a strategy to win, that you have the best team that you are going to put forward to win the elections.
“That is what the people want to see and are entitled to see and until we see that, a lot of people will remain unconvinced with what’s going on right now,” she said.
OPPOSITION HAS CHANCE
Ambiga said the opposition are “lucky” as voters would still vote for them, despite the unstable situation they are currently in.
“Even if they (opposition) don’t get their act together, I persoally think that they have a chance.
“Not because they want it but because we want it and despite how incompetent they may seem, I think we will still vote for them because we want change and they are lucky because of that.
“Now that’s why I say, hope do come from the people and I do put a high hope on the youth in our country to make the difference,” she said.
About 200 people attended the forum organised by the Council of Churches of Malaysia (CCM).
Other speakers includes Bersih 2.0 chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah and Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs (Ideas) Chief Operating Officer Tricia Yeoh and was moderated by Asli Center for Public Policy Studies Chairman Tan Sri Ramon Navaratnam.
